Oneohtrix Point Never Set To Release New Album ‘R Plus Seven’ On October 1st

June 20th, 2013

“Music that gently triggers a series of images and feelings, none of which you can name and all of which seem entirely common” – The New Yorker

Warp Records and Fontana North Distribution are pleased to announce the release of Oneohtrix Point Never‘s ‘R Plus Seven’ on October 1, 2013. The album contains many familiar sonic touchstones for listeners who have followed the acclaimed electronic music composer’s development over the last half-decade, his Warp Records debut is a major departure from his previous work. Daniel Lopatin‘s experimental inclinations lurk behind the scenes – in the concepts and procedures he adopted to create the tracks – while the music itself comes as close as Lopatin has ever gotten to anything resembling traditional song structure. Which, for Lopatin, is only so close: The work is full of overlapping, abstract musical through-lines, puzzle-like pieces that, taken together, might allow you to glimpse an overarching tableau.

The Brooklyn-based artist has always deftly balanced the experimental with the accessible:  He has released several albums under his Oneohtrix Point Never moniker on various independent labels — including the 2013 3-CD/5 LP Rifts, a compilation of his early work — as well as amassing a large catalogue of mini-album tape releases. His most recent disc, 2011′s Replica, was built around samples of television commercials.

OPN has built live soundscapes at the Museum of Modern Art; collaborated with Montreal-based ambient electronic music composer Tim Hecker on the largely improvised 2012 ‘Instrumental Tourist’; and recast the title track from his 2010 disc ‘Returnal’ as an elegant and emotive piece for piano, featuring the otherworldly voice of Antony Hegarty. Advertising powerhouse Saatchi & Saatchi tapped Lopatin for an installation event at the 2012 Cannes Film Fest and Sofia Coppola‘s long-time cohort Brian Reitzell invited him to create original music for Coppola’s The Bling Ring.

‘R Plus Seven’ is disruptive and hypnotic in equal measure, and the fun of it lies in trusting Lopatin as he guides you past – and often through – its succession of walls and mirrors.

Mark Pritchard’s new ‘Ghosts’ EP is the first of three EPs set to be released ahead of an upcoming full length album. The four track EP is lead by the track “Ghosts” – his take on footwork, with a nod to Detroit techno.

Mark Pritchard has previously been known under many guises – most recently as Harmonic 313, Harmonic 33 and one half of Africa Hitech. This release marks the start of a new and single moniker – all his production styles have come together under one name. The EP demonstrates Pritchard’s expansive work over decades at the forefront of cutting edge electronic music.

New Releases – Tuesday, June 18, 2013

June 18th, 2013

Back to the grind after a great (wild) NXNE, we’ve got the best new music comin’ at you. “Watching Movies With The Sound Off” from 21 year old Mac Miller is the rapper’s sophomore record which features huge names like Pharrel, Flying Lotus, and Earl Sweatshirt. Big names aren’t everything here though, it also features a cover with that very precariously placed Parental Advisory label. Toronto’s Austra distance themselves from the gothic exterior of their debut on follow up “Olympia” which better captures the energy of their exciting live performances. Last in this trio of sophomore albums is “Checkered Past” from The Harpoonist and The Axe Murderer, Vancouver’s Shawn Hall and Matthew Rogers respectively.

With just one more week to go until digital release of Tiësto‘s new mix album “Club Life – Volume Three Stockholm” we have a bunch of surprises that’s sure to bring a happy Tuesday.

Tiësto is making his remix of Icona Pop “I Love It” available to stream in its entirety from the Musical Freedom Soundcloud. Included on Club Life – Volume Three Stockholm, Tiësto’s takes Icona Pop’s smash original and twists it for the dance floor by adding an entirely new bassline, melody and massive drop.

Today, Tiësto goes for the trifecta with three huge single releases culled from the compilation.

Tiësto and Moti – “Back To Acid”
The aptly titled “Back To Acid” matches Tiësto with fellow Dutch producer Moti for a track that pays homage to the spirit of dance music’s acid house years. “Back To Acid” brings together a rubbery bassline, electro therapy and filtered vocal for a peak time groove. Listen HERE

Tiësto and DJ Punish – “Shocker”
Born on the dark side of the dance floor “Shocker” is a storm of mayhem from Tiësto and DJ Punish. A driving, aggressive intro builds towards end of the night madness; but not before a sinister drop slaps a bass bomb over the dance floor. Listen HERE

Tiësto & Dyro – Paradise
“Club Life – Volume Three Stockholm” is jam packed with hits, but still, you’d be hard pressed to find a track as huge and with as much emotion as “Paradise.” Already a staple in the sets of the most revered DJs in the world, “Paradise” is simply gorgeous with a driving melody that makes you want to jump and celebrate dance music. This is the best of summer wrapped up into a song. Listen HERE

Exclusive “CLUB LIFE – Volume 3 Stockholm” merchandise bundles, including signed copies of the album, t-shirts, posters and more are available for purchase through

Tiësto will be supporting the album throughout 2013 with more than 100 dates on the CLUB LIFE WORLD TOUR.

New Releases – Tuesday, June 11, 2013

June 11th, 2013

Getting in just before one of Toronto’s busiest weeks with NXNE, here’s our latest releases before the onslaught begins. For Finnish metal band Children of Bodom’s 8th record “Halo of Blood” the thrashing melodic riffs rip through with stadium sized precision. Boards of Canada built up an entertainingly mysterious promotional campaign for “Tomorrow’s Harvest” their first release in 8 years, and the beautiful atmospheric songs are all the better for it. Florida deathcore band King Conquer’s highly anticipated sophomore effort “1776″ is now available after being teased since the leak of an early “Tyranny” by the band in October 2011. We also have several new releases from Napalm Records below.

Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings Cancel Album Release And Touring For 2013

June 4th, 2013

Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings regret to announce that plans to tour and release their upcoming album in 2013 have been postponed.

Give The People What They Want will NOT be released on Aug 6, 2013 as previously scheduled.

Sharon Jones has been diagnosed with stage-one bile duct cancer, which has fortunately been discovered early and has not spread. It is expected that the immediate proposed surgical solution will lead to a full recovery, but because of its invasive and complex nature, will necessitate a rather lengthy convalescence.

Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings will be back before you know it, with a new release date and rescheduled tours worldwide.

Sharon would like her fans to know that she is anxious to get back on her feet, and that she is “down, but not out!”

“Over the last few weeks I haven’t felt good and I didn’t know what was going on.  We sadly had to cancel shows while I went through a series of tests and short hospital stays.   We just found out that I have a stage-one tumor on my bile duct.  Luckily we caught it really early and fast and the doctors say it’s operable and curable!

I will be having surgery very soon and will have to rest and recover.  I’ll be staying in touch and keeping my fans and friends updated on my progress.  I’m looking forward to getting back on the road to give the people what they want!”
