Bury Tomorrow return with their devastating new album ‘Runes’ on Nuclear Blast Records. With equal emphasis on heaviness and melody the band have forged a sound that is as crushing as it is catchy. Dave Bidini has crafted the band’s magnum opus with Bidiniband’s third LP ‘The Motherland’. The ex-Rheostatic is joined by Don Kerr, Doug Friesen and Paul Linklater for the Joe Dunphy co-produced record. Stream the full album on the Pheromone Recordings Soundcloud page. Bidiniband sets out to support the record with tour dates at Toronto Urban Roots Festival and Edmonton’s Interstellar Rodeo. Naomi Shelton & The Gospel Queens Return July 29 With Cold World LP

May 22nd, 2014

USA Portrait - Naomi Shelton

In the six years since the release of their last full-length record, Naomi Shelton & the Gospel Queens have toured extensively, playing main stages at some of the most prestigious festivals in the world, including Bonnaroo, The Monterey Jazz Festival, Pop Montreal, and The Ottawa Blues Festival. Though seasoned veterans, these last years of touring played a crucial role in the creation of the songs that would become the forthcoming album Cold World. With Gabriel Roth (Bosco Mann) at the helm, Naomi and company went into the studio in June of 2013 and cut twelve inspired new songs live to eight-track tape.

Though the music is most unapologetically gospel, most of the lyrics on the record would fall under what could be called “message songs”. That is, music containing uplifting spiritual messages, reminiscent of the more inspirational moments of The Staple Singers or Curtis Mayfield.  However, the relationship between gospel and soul music does not need to be discussed again here.

The Beaches are four teenage girls shaming their seniors into silence and their fans into submission with their awesome rock ballad ‘Little Pieces’.” – (UK)

New single ‘Little Pieces’ is three minutes of angst-ridden rock, with a tarnished pop vein muddying the waters between sugary choruses and heavy as f*** riffery.” – The Digital Fix (UK)

Toronto, ON – (May 27, 2014) – Toronto-based indie alt-rockers The Beaches officially announced today the release of their brand new, self-produced EP “Heights” via the band’s own label Done With Dolls, and distributed by AWAL worldwide and Fontana North in Canada. Available everywhere, first single “Little Pieces” is a raucous lyrical force that far surpasses the expected maturity level of a group so young. Having recently wrapped a UK tour in support of Brody Dalle (of The Distillers fame), The Beaches announced a slew of Canadian dates, including a slot on August 1st at the celebrated Osheaga Festival in Montreal alongside Outkast, Jack White, Lorde, Foster The People and a date at Riot Fest in September where they will share the stage with City and Colour, Metric, The Cure and others.

Plaid’s ‘Reachy Prints’ Out Today! Release Video for track ‘Wallet’ & Announce Vancouver Show July 12

May 20th, 2014

“The glitch squelches and soft keys of ‘Wallet’ are instantly likeable, while album highlight ‘Tether’ is just vintage Plaid: weird and beautifully layered.”
Vincent Pollard, Exclaim!

After 25 years together as Plaid, Andy Turner and Ed Handley are still true innovators within the world of electronic music production. ‘Reachy Prints,’ their 10th album, continues the evolution of Plaid’s long nurtured sound and reveals some of its hidden, most complex domains.

The director of their new video for ‘Wallet,’ Sabrina Ratte, says, “The video is inspired by the idea of creating a world based on memories, where things seem real but they are in fact a construction of the mind. All the images are made from electronic signals, from which were created a reproduction of a sun, different landscapes and cities. The musical composition induced the vision of bright colours and daylight atmosphere, so the simulated sunlight became a central element of the video, thus creating dazed images where everything is diffused and hard to grasp.”

“In 20 years’ time, people will buy Definitely Maybe and listen to it for what it was. That’s what is important.” Noel Gallagher said in 1994 and 20 years on Oasis‘ seminal debut ‘Definitely Maybe’ has been remastered and reissued on CD, deluxe 3CD and 2LP vinyl. The record’s songs sound as fresh today as they did 20years ago, with established hits (Supersonic, Shakermaker, Live Forever)  and b-sides alike (Rock ‘N’ Roll Star, Slide Away) known to every generation of rock fans. The deluxe 3CD comes in a hard back book style package with 24 page booklet containing 44 tracks including remastered original tracks, b-sides and rarities. After 25 years together Plaid have released their 10th album ‘Reachy Prints’ on Warp Records. Bidiniband Releases Third LP ‘The Motherland’ May 27

May 16th, 2014

Album launch party at Toronto’s Dakota Tavern Thurs. May 29, 7-9 PM

Dave Bidini, singer/songwriter, author, columnist, and all-around national treasure, has been making music for over 30 years. Having established his reputation as a founding member of the Rheostatics, with BidiniBand — where he is joined by drummer Don Kerr, guitarist Paul Linklater and bassist Doug Friesen — Bidini has continued to develop his inventive, challenging, literate, and distinctly Canadian voice.

The Motherland, the third BidiniBand album, is another milestone in Bidini’s extensive catalogue of artistic achievements. It’s a bold, 10-song collection that musically runs the gamut from prog to country rock, while lyrically taking pointed jabs at the current state of the nation under the Harper regime.

Tech N9ne‘s latest Collabos album ‘Strangeulation’ features a who’s who of Strange Music artists collected together on one record. Tech puts the rap game in a lyrical chokehold across the album, watch him kill it on ‘Over It’ f. Ryan Bradley. Deluxe editions of the album also include a collectible coin and 3 additional tracks not included on the standard release. Two legendary UK producers Brian Eno and frequent collaborator Karl Hyde of Underworld come together on ‘Someday World’. Hyde found inspiration in Eno’s vast amounts of experiments and unfinished ideas which created the foundation for the album. The duo first dropped the new wave-influenced tracks ‘The Satellites’ and ‘Daddy’s Car’ and have followed up with a brief look at their studio sessions all of which can be seen here. Epica looked to start fresh with their 6th studio album ‘The Quantum Enigma’. Along with a new bassist the Netherlands band went to a new studio and sought out a new producer to find a new balance for Epica, they told HMV. The band will be in Canada this August for Heavy Montreal, find more details here.
