Following their 2014 breakout single ‘Hot Shot‘ (the biggest selling Daptone 45 ever) long-time Sharon Jones & the Dap-Kings backing singers Saundra Williams and Starr Duncan Lowe (known as Saun & Starr) have confirmed the release of their debut full-length album ‘Look Closer’, out May 19, 2015 via Daptone Records and Fontana North.
Recorded with The Dap-Kings, the highly anticipated album was produced by Daptone’s Gabriel Roth and features ten original tracks by the duo (including the hit “Hot Shot”). The album was recorded at Daptone Records’ House of Soul studio in Bushwick, Brooklyn in 2014.
Breakout band Cheerleader‘s debut LP ‘The Sunshine of Your Youth‘ will be released May 19 via Bright Antenna Records and Fontana North. The record features songs off the band’s critically acclaimed ’On Your Side‘ EP as well as never before heard tracks.
‘The Sunshine of Your Youth’ was recorded at East/West Studio in Los Angeles and produced by Mark Needham who took an interest in the band at one of their earliest live shows. Some of the earliest demo tracks ended up in the final recording, allowing the record to retain the intimacy of its beginnings as a low-fi bedroom project. Despite the cheery band name, album title and anthemic choruses, ‘The Sunshine of Your Youth’ is a reaction to harder times. Joe Haller explains, “We actually wrote these songs at a time in our lives when we were dealing with some heavy personal stuff. It’s there if you really want to listen for it, but for us, the title is more about a state of mind than a particular time in your life… how no matter what’s going on, life can be full of wonder and beauty, as long as you’re open to these things.”
Xtra Mile Recordings and Fontana North are proud to present their newest signing, the six-piece London-based folk band Skinny Lister, and the release of their forthcoming sophomore album titled ‘Down On Deptford Broadway.’ Being released in North America on Tuesday, April 21, ‘Down On Deptford Broadway’ was produced by Ted Hutt (The Gaslight Anthem, Flogging Molly, Lucero) and is an album packed with smart song-writing that joins elements of folk with the attitude of punk and rock ‘n’ roll that bursts with sing-along choruses and infectious, raucous energy.
The band has also released ‘Cathy’ from the new album, an offering that perfectly fuses their traditional shanti-inspired folk with an attitude and stomp akin to The Pogues. ‘Cathy’ is an ode to addiction and recklessness,” said singer/guitarist Dan Heptinstall. “A declaration of desire for someone or something that you know is bad for you, and you’d be wise to steer well clear of. It’s the classic wrestle between head and heart.”
Squarepusher is set to release his new record ‘Damogen Furies‘ on April 21 via Warp Records and Fontana North.
‘Damogen Furies,’ his first full-length since 2012′s Ufabulum, sees Squarepusher’s powers in full flow. The techniques and craftsmanship that he has honed over the course of his career have become some of his signal qualities. He has spent the last decade creating and refining his own unique software system, and this album is the first to be made using that system exclusively. It is the culmination of years spent experimenting with and hacking hardware and software, having long since abandoned the limitations of out-of-the-box offerings. Squarepusher has remained truly experimental in part because he has rejected those limitations, choosing instead a compositional process that places the act of building instruments at its heart. On ‘Damogen Furies’ we hear a truthful, unembellished representation of how those instruments sound. All of the recordings here were made in one take, with no edits.
North American Spring Headlining Dates & Skiffle Tour Announced
Xtra Mile Recordings and Fontana North are proud to announce the release of drunk folk singer, barefoot troubadour and cult legend Beans on Toast‘s new album ‘The Grand Scheme of Things.’ Out digitally on Tuesday, March 10 ‘The Grand Scheme of Things’ marks the sixth full-length from Beans on Toast (solo vehicle for singer-songwriter Jay McAllister) and is an album that turns to more wholesome topics of home life with his longtime muse Lizzy Bee, an upcoming honeymoon, and a whole lot of loving; a marked change in the man who once was a poster boy for recreational drugs. What hasn’t changed, though, is Beans on Toast’s unrivaled ability to tell a tale, his sharp social commentary and his ability to tackle difficult subjects from an everyday point of view. Here, his thoughts from the last year are honestly regaled through eleven life-affirming and frequently humorous tracks.
Additionally, Beans on Toast will be appearing live in proper venues, bars, apartments, houses across North America, and even on a luxury cruise liner as he joins the Flogging Molly Salty Dog Cruise from Miami to the Bahamas on his upcoming “Skiffle” tour. With his biggest year to date behind him that included world touring, opening arenas for Frank Turner, playing a jam-packed summer of festivals, and performing his largest London headlining show to date at the Electric Ballroom on Thursday, December 11, Beans on Toast is poised to keep the momentum going.

This partnership comes just in time to announce three new Xtra Mile digital releases in March. To Kill A King will be releasing their self-titled album on March 3rd, Beans On Toast will be releasing ‘The Grand Scheme Of Things’ on March 10th, and Frank Turner‘s ‘The Third Three Years’ will be released on the same day.
ZERBIN is set to release their anticipated LP ’Darling‘ on April 14, 2015. Self-produced by the band (Jason Zerbin, Peter Mol, Duran Ritz) and mixed by Dave Pensado (Michael Jackson, Beyonce, Elton John), Tom Dobrzanski (Said the Whale,
Hey Ocean!, We Are the City) and Jason himself. The album displays a fresh and infectious incarnation of symphonic alt-pop, a mixing of the band’s Alberta roots and West-Coast home.
Recorded over the course of six weeks in a one hundred-year-old house on Vancouver Island, ZERBIN have created what feels like a true debut for the band. Straying from preset production avenues they drew on an assortment of vintage gear to create and capture the unique sonics of ’Darling‘. This record is anthemic, symphonic and addictive with songs that capture your head and heart.
