Dralms unveils a debut full-length album, Shook, which releases globally on October 2, 2015 via Boompa Records/Fontana North (North America) and Full Time Hobby (Europe.)
Dralms is Christopher Smith’s latest project, which, over the past year, released two celebrated EPs; Crushed Pleats and Pillars & Pyre. While those exquisitely rendered and emotionally bold EP’s were perhaps gentle threats of future Dralms offerings, today’s towering first single (also titled ‘Shook’) lends more clues.
The sound of Dralms has a gravitational pull much like Vancouver, Canada, where singer Christopher Smith resides. When trying to describe musical similarities, reviewers have looked in the directions of Talk Talk, Radiohead, The Antlers, Pink Floyd and Spiritualized, but those references only hint at Dralms’ indeterminable qualities. Clash described Dralms’ music as “a contagious, thrilling fare with a unique melodic sense.”
Today, Raghav has released his new single ‘Until The Sun Comes Up‘, via Fontana North. The track features Grammy Award winning rapper Nelly, and there is an exclusive bonus version that features the hip-hop stylings of Bollywood superstar Abhishek Bachchan.
Of the track Raghav says, “I hope people will look years from now at this song being a singular moment when east and west collaborated in a way that has a true global musical impact. And performing it with Abhishek (who is the most talented human I’ve ever met) and Nelly (who is a legend) make this song even more special to me.” Abhishek seconds that sentiment “thank you Raghav for giving me the opportunity to work with two of my favourites.”

Halifax’s A Sight For Sewn Eyes have released their sophomore album ‘Self-Titled‘ today via Distort Entertainment and Fontana North.
‘Self-Titled’ showcases the band’s now-cemented sound – a flurry of ferocious riffing, maniacal time shifts, and merciless, in-your-face vocals. It’s an expertly-executed collage of components from various styles of contemporary heavy music; incorporating everything from the manic tempos of NYC hardcore, to the delightfully dissonant rhythmic onslaught of early metalcore pioneers like Norma Jean and Beloved, to more melodic musings that border on post-rock.

On September 18, Battles will be releasing ‘La Di Da Di‘ via Warp Records and Fontana North.
Battles are the Networked Band, or perhaps the-band-as-network. An island chain linked by a unique combination of artistry, experimentation, technology and singular focus. A band that holds computerized loops in their brains, leaves sweat on their machines and whose sonic heartbeat is almost brutally human.
Dave Konopka, Ian Williams and John Stanier have turned the tables on themselves this time, confronted their own ideas of what Battles is – and here on their third album, have willed an answer to that question into existence. As the name might imply, ‘La Di Da Di’ is a mushrooming monolith of repetition. Here is an organic techno thrum of nearly infinite loops that refuse to remain consistent. The rhythmic genus of Battles is here as ever; full frontal, heightened and unforgiving – the gauntlet through which melody and harmony must pass, assailed at every turn. (more…)
Chilly Gonzales played a surprise role in Friday evening’s Toronto 2015 Pan Am Games Opening Ceremony. The Grammy award-winning musician and composer, in his signature bathrobe and slippers, played two minutes of his own composition ‘Train of Thought‘ from his critically acclaimed album Solo Piano II while the Canadian flag was ceremoniously brought into the arena by a group of nine Royal Canadian Mounted Police. The beautifully resonant moment was witnessed by a sold out crowd of 45 000 audience members and 45 million TV viewers from around the world. Chilly Gonzales then played Canada’s national anthem on the piano accompanied by Franco-Ontarien singer Véronic Dicaire and the Toronto Symphony Orchestra led by TSO conductor Peter Oundjian. Currently finishing up four months of sold out shows in North America and Europe in support of Chambers, his anticipated follow-up album to Solo Piano II, Chilly Gonzales & Kaiser Quartett are pleased to announce their first show at Massey Hall in Toronto on Friday, February 5, 2016 and at Salle Wilfred Pelletier at Place des Arts in Montreal on Monday, February 8, 2016. Pre-sale for Massey Hall members begins on July 14 at 10 a.m. and go on sale for the AMEX members on July 16 and to the general public on July 17 at 10 a.m. via their website at masseyhall.com. The Fratellis have announced the release of their brand new album ‘Eyes Wide, Tongue Tied,’ out August 21 via Cooking Vinyl and Pheromone Recordings, which has licensed the recording.
Their new single ‘Baby Don’t You Lie To Me,’ is a foot-stomping anthem. Its fully charged nature is reminiscent of the energetic soul that paraded through their 2006 debut album smash ‘Costello Music‘. But there’s a glorious new level to it, the sound of freedom, a force that runs throughout the album. After three full-length records (two top 5′s), a Brit Award, four sold-out nights at Brixton Academy and countless sell-out shows, exuding Zen-like calm, Jon Fratelli has embraced this newly found freedom, and boy does it show.
