Ron Hawkins Announces Spit Sputter And Sparkle Out March 25, 2016

February 25th, 2016

Ron Hawkins

ANNOUNCES TOUR DATES

Ron Hawkins has long been revered as one of Canada’s greatest contemporary singer-songwriters. Ron will release his new album, Spit Sputter and Sparkle, showcasing his exemplary skills with a word, a hook, a riff and a melody. Slated for a March 25th, 2016 release via Pheromone Recordings, the album features 11 new originals, including the first single, Beautiful Girl. Spit Sputter and Sparkle will be available for pre-order at www.ronhawkins.com soon.

The new album was primarily recorded at Ron’s 55 Below home studio with Ron taking care of all vocals and instrumentation. “My little home studio is only nine feet by nine feet but it’s packed with toys and musical goodies. It’s a bit like going down the rabbit hole.” Ron continues: “I spent the better part of a year down that rabbit hole and when I came out the other side Spit Sputter and Sparkle was born.”

As lead singer/multi-instrumentalist of Canada’s legendary Lowest of the Low, Ron has enjoyed many accolades through the years. Chart Magazine honoured the group’s 1991 debut album, Shakespeare My Butt, with spots in the top 10 of the Top 100 Canadian Albums of All Time, Ron has received Toronto station 102.1 The Edge’s Lifetime Achievement Award (2000), and has been voted Songwriter of the Year by NOW Magazine’s reader’s poll in 2000 and once again in 2015. In 2008 Lowest of the Low was inducted into the Canadian Indie Rock Hall of Fame and awarded gold records for Shakespeare My Butt.

Spit Sputter and Sparkle is Ron’s 15th album of original material and due to lift him onto the musical pedestal he has clearly earned.

Brian Eno’s New Album The Ship To Be Released April 29 On Warp Records & Fontana North

February 24th, 2016

“Humankind seems to teeter between hubris and paranoia: the hubris of our ever-growing power contrasts with the paranoia that we’re permanently and increasingly under threat. At the zenith we realise we have to come down again…we know that we have more than we deserve or can defend, so we become nervous. Somebody, something is going to take it all from us: that is the dread of the wealthy. Paranoia leads to defensiveness, and we all end up in the trenches facing each other across the mud.” – Brian Eno

The Ship, the new album by Brian Eno, will be released on Friday, April 29th, 2016 via Warp Records/Fontana North. The Ship is Eno’s first solo record since 2012′s Grammy-nominated LUX. Originally conceived from experiments with three dimensional recording techniques and formed in two, interconnected parts, The Ship is almost as much musical novel as traditional album. Eno brings together beautiful songs, minimalist ambience, physical electronics, omniscient narratives and technical innovation into a single, cinematic suite. The result is the very best of Eno, a record without parallel in his catalogue.

“On a musical level, I wanted to make a record of songs that didn’t rely on the normal underpinnings of rhythmic structure and chord progressions but which allowed voices to exist in their own space and time, like events in a landscape. I wanted to place sonic events in a free, open space. (more…)

Watch “Free Drink Ticket” via DAZED; “The Realest Break Up Song Out There”

RUB video on top 20 list for Prism Prize

Peaches’ new video for “Free Drink Ticket” explores the darker side of her 2015 LP ‘Rub.’ The video was choreographed by and features Ryan Heffington, who choreographed Sia’s “Chandelier” and “Elastic Heart” as well as recent videos for Arcade Fire and Florence + The Machine. Sara Sachs, who is the brain behind the state of the art fashion house Moonspoon Saloon, makes her directorial debut. She also designed all of the videos costumes. DAZED calls the video a “Gothic silent film-style piece of art” and says it “gives us a piece of Peaches we’ve never seen before.” Peaches is creating a music video for each of the 11 songs from ‘Rub’; this is the sixth video for the album. The video for RUB has been voted into the top 20 for the Prism Prize.

Peaches says of the song and video: “‘Free Drink Ticket’ is the darkest and most poetic song I have ever written. For the video, it was important to demonstrate that if you hold onto the bitterness that you feel from a monster who has hurt you, then you will become the monster that you are trying to shed. Sara Sachs and I drew from dramatic images from Cabinet of Dr. Caligari and Le Testament d’Orphée.”
