“Soft Summer is a sparkling debut LP from this emerging Canadian songwriter.”- CBC Music
“‘Meant to Be’ toes the line between melancholy and hope, pairing gentle acoustic strumming with Moxam’s twangy alt-country vocal delivery.”- Exclaim
Singer-songwriter Tim Moxam will light up the stage with a full band TONIGHT at Toronto’s Dakota Tavern, in celebration of his new album. Tomorrow, Moxam will release his debut full length, Soft Summer, on Roaring Girl Records/Fontana North. The album that Exclaim called “a cozy soundtrack to the forthcoming warm weather”, features a unique collection of songs from the previously released Meant To Be and Bones, to newly CBC R2 added Harvest For The Queen. The Bluegrass Situation premiered the first video in the Roaring Girl Dream Date series for Moxam’s track, Heavy Fog, and CBC Music is currently featuring the album on First Play. Album links can be found below.
Moxam shares the inspiration behind the song Heavy Fog: “I spent a night stranded at the top of the Cobequid Pass in Nova Scotia, under a flashing sign that read “Heavy Fog on the pass.” It matched my foggy head and since I had a lot of time to think I found some clarity in the morning when the fog began to lift.”
For the recording of the album, Moxam recruited a who’s who in Toronto’s music scene: former bandmates, Adrian Cook (guitar) and Tony McKnight (bass) of Great Bloomers, Joshua Van Tassel (drums) of Great Lake Swimmers, and Lemon Bucket Orkestra’s Christopher Weatherstone (saxophone.) The songstresses Ivy Mairi (The Weather Station, Bruce Peninsula) and Raffa Weyman (RALPH and formerly Queen of the Fleet) provided accompanying vocals on several tracks. The album was recorded, mixed and produced by Chris Stringer, who has worked with Timber Timbre, Ohbijou, The Wooden Sky and Gentlemen Reg, among countless others.
Soft Summer is at turns passionate and tender, sorrowful and solemn, uplifting and rollicking. It’s a look inside Moxam’s own life, encrypted in metaphors and melodies. CBC Music declares: “Moxam’s vocals can be at once fragile, comforting and warm with a delicate croon that instantly invites the listener to sing along.” Many of the songs have lived with the Toronto-based Moxam for years, lyrics being re-worked and re-written in countless journals, while others were birthed in the final months before recording. Some were from the era before his first EP, Blue Son, and some were even penned in the backseat of the van as he toured with his former band, the beloved indie rock group, Great Bloomers. Stay tuned for Moxam tour dates to be announced soon.
Following 2014′s Reachy Prints, Plaid now announce the forthcoming release of their new album The Digging Remedy, out on June 10 with Warp Records. Uncover the lead track “CLOCK” on thediggingremedy.com, a growing collaborative project with digital artist Cabbibo (cabbi.bo).
Ed Handley and Andy Turner are the perfect encapsulation of what the electronic music of their generation was all about; they brought new rhythmic variation, emotive melody and textures to electronic music, creating a warm and welcoming counterpart to the white heat of the rave explosion.
On new album The Digging Remedy all the elements that first inspired Ed and Andy are there – like the ecstatic Detroit chords in “CLOCK” – but everything is bigger and broader in scope, more luxuriant, more gleaming with detail.
” ‘Anyone’ recalls a Chrissie Hynde-like balance of unsettling lyrical directness and pop composure.” - Rolling Stone
Following the far-reaching success of her independent 2012 studio release Warm in The Darkness, Australia’s Liz Stringer is back with her stunning new full-length album, All The Bridges, out July 1st, 2016 on Roaring Girl Records/Fontana North. Anyone, the album’s lead single, with it’s driving beat and delay-loaded lead guitar, manages to echo homages to classic 80′s rock and roll (Divinyls, The Pretenders) while remaining timeless, with Liz’s distinctive smoky vocal at the centre. The video for Anyone recently premiered on Rolling Stone – watch it here. Along with the new album, Liz has announced her “All The Bridges” Canadian Tour with stops from coast to coast – further details below. Anyone is available as an instant grat track now, with the pre-order of All The Bridges (links below).
“If you can imagine Patsy Cline writings songs with Feist, you kind of have an idea of where Jadea Kelly resides within the musical spectrum.” - The Pop Stereo USA
Some of the greatest art is drawn from darkness. So too was Love & Lust – the compelling and honest third studio record from Jadea Kelly. Set for a June 3rd, 2016 release via her own label Darth Jadea Music (distributed by Fontana North), the stunning 11 song album touches on a gamut of emotions from heartbreak, infidelity, desire, betrayal, forgiveness and human frailty. Have a listen to the first track, Make It Easy, with her risque lyric video below. The album is available to pre-order now at: www.darthjadea.com. Sharing her time between Toronto and Nashville, Jadea is ready to bring these anticipated new songs on the road this summer, and through the fall. Details listed below.
“I wanna drown it. Way I feel. If I do does it make the heat less real Sit up on me/ Pull my waist. Watch the blood rush through my face”
The opening lines of Love & Lust frame these emotions candidly on Make It Easy. Swelling with vocal hooks and ambient guitar delays, Love & Lust is an honest and eerily haunting folk genre – accurately coined by her peers as Euphoria Folk. Jadea guides the listener through the darkness of infidelity and her prolific journey towards light and wisdom. “Making this record saved me and healed me completely.” Jadea continues; “I made it for the women and men who have faced the same uncomfortable truths of love & lust. It may well be the hardest album I’ll ever write but also the most prolific time of my life.”
Recorded in Toronto at Noble Street Studios and The Woodshed Studio throughout 2014 and 2015, the album was co-produced by Stew Crookes (Hawksley Workman, Doug Paisley), Tom Juhas (Royal Wood, Emma Lee) and Jadea live off the floor and directly to tape. Each song beautifully crafted and thoughtfully executed.

We can now reveal the track “Fickle Sun (iii) I’m Set Free” as the lead single from Eno’s forthcoming album, The Ship.
Since announcing the album, this cover of The Velvet Underground originally penned by Lou Reed has been the subject of considerable speculation. In context as the third part of “Fickle Sun” and album finale it forms an optimistic look to the future. Heard here as a standalone piece, with it’s soaring strings and prescient lyrics, the focus is on the quality of the song. A distant collaboration between two of the most important figures in the last 50 years of pop music.
“Somewhere in the chasm between mischief and terror, is Reuben Hollebon’s unsettling, magnetic music.” – The Nerdist
“This is music built from a childhood of beat, jazz, and some post punk. If we’re opening the record collection for access points, start with Father John Misty, Elbow, Talking Heads, and move into Marc Bolan, CAN and Jon Hopkins.” – The Line Of Best Fit
“New cut ‘Faces’ is a darkly poetic piece of work, confronting the differences in various personality traits.” – Clash Magazine
English musician, producer and engineer, Reuben Hollebon has unveiled his latest music video for his track Faces (Damian Taylor remix). The song was featured on The Current’s Song of the Day. The original track is included on Hollebon’s forthcoming, debut album, Terminal Nostalgia, out May 20th, 2016 on Bright Antenna Records/Fontana North. Remix is available on iTunes now, and the album will be available for pre-order this Friday.
Largely self-produced, Terminal Nostalgia is a 12-song collection of deeply personal stories told with raw, tremulous vocals. The soundscape takes influence from Hollebon’s time as a recording engineer for several well-known acts, including Imogen Heap, Courtney Barnett and The London Symphony Orchestra. Terminal Nostalgia also features the single Common Table. Check out the video that premiered on Stereogum below.
