Stream The Dead Ships’ CITYCIDE at Consequence Of Sound

“Sounds like The Strokes if they’d reinvented themselves as a folk punk band.” - Entertainment Weekly

“Righteous pure rock”MTV

The Dead Ships will release their debut full-length LP CITYCIDE in North America on June 24 via Nevado Music. The album is available to pre-order digitally via iTunes and on CD & LP in the Nevado Music Online Store. Consequence of Sound is streaming the album in full ahead of Friday’s release date. CoS says, “The Dead Ships take a cue from Modest Mouse circa 2004 and ‘Float On,’ undeterred by challenges, loneliness, and even the death of a close friend of singer/guitarist Devlin McCluskey. With the help of past collaborator Brendan Canning of Broken Social Scene, who sat behind the boards and lent some gnarly guitar throughout, the three-piece look darkness in its face, processing that pain through 11 garage rockers that scratch, brood, and rattle before eventually finding the light and a reason to celebrate life.”

CITYCIDE follows up The Dead Ships’ critically acclaimed EP 1 and will include singles “Company Line” as well as “Big Quiet” which spent five weeks at number one on KROQ’s Local’s Only. The Dead Ships just wrapped up a west coast tour opening for The Cult and will be performing this summer Milwaukee’s Summerfest and in Long Beach, CA at Music Tastes Good Festival. Additionally, the band announced a hometown record release show taking place on July 15 at The Hi-Hat.

Zack Lopez of Middle Class Rut donating proceeds to Orlando Victims

June 15th, 2016

zack lopez

More than a year ago, Sacramento-based indie alt. artist Zack Lopez wrote a song with a powerful message about the ongoing gun violence crisis. Today, sadly, the chilling lyrics in “Bloodlines” hits closer to home for many. As a voice hoping to continue to shed light on the issue and evoke a bit of humanity in society, Zack has released a touching video for “Bloodlines” and will be donating proceeds from the song to the victims of the Pulse shooting in Orlando via their GoFundMe account.

Zack says, “”I wrote ‘Bloodlines’ sometime around the end of 2014 and it is one of those songs that wrote itself. The first line sort of just came out as I was playing the chords, and from there I kept writing verse after verse until I ran out of rhymes and things to say. I guess it came from an overwhelming feeling of the world becoming desensitized to guns, violence, and death in general. I didn’t set out to write it, nothing triggered it, it just came out. As far as the video goes, we wanted to show something that didn’t glorify any of those things…something that felt very real, but didn’t distract you from the lyrics. With each violent attack that’s happened since I wrote it, it’s felt more and more relevant in a scary way.”

“A record fully engrossed in the dark truths of infidelity, human frailty, and all of the darkest corners of the categories of Love and Lust, Kelly reveals herself in ways we’ve not yet seen from the Toronto songwriter.” -Beatroute

“Love & Lust is Kelly’s finest work yet.” -Exclaim

Some of the greatest art is drawn from darkness. So too was Love & Lust – the compelling and honest third studio record from Jadea Kelly. The release was celebrated with a sold-out Toronto show at The Drake on June 4th, to be followed by summer tour dates.
