Safe In The Hands of Love follows 2016′s Serpent Music.

TORONTO, ON – July 25, 2018 -  Yves Tumor? Try to unravel, and the dimensions and personas spill out like the cracked and warped contents of a grotesquely beautiful matryoshka doll. A gothic soundscape auteur? Details are scant, so the music does most of the talking… except the scarce occasion when Yves offers a few words: “A lot of people are confused about my actual whereabouts, but that’s OK,” posited in a rare interview from last year.

To see Yves Tumor step upon a stage is to be thrashed by a howling cyberpunk fiend – yet filter the recorded output and be treated to a kaleidoscopic union of classic songwriting and lobotomized sound experiments.  The duality unveils subtly but hints and images can be parsed from music and lyrics, giving that impression that on experience and listen it just might be possible that everything will come perfectly into focus.

This huge and contorted pop masterpiece called ‘Noid’ is diabolically rowdy, yet absolute in it’s crepuscular message of contemporary dread. It also seems the perfect place to start……

Speaking to the song’s message, frontman Joe Talbot says:

There’s been a long line of bullshit that has pushed men into a corner, where simple masking becomes a trope of masculinity and a catalyst for insanity. What we wear, what we eat, what razor we use, high performance chewing gum, go faster shampoo, how we treat women, how we treat ourselves, how we die. I truly believe that masculinity has gone from an evolution of cultural praxis to a disease. I wanted to encourage a conversation about gender roles by writing this song.

Produced by GAIKA and SOPHIE, ‘Immigrant Sons (Pesos & Gas)’ is a rallying cry that pushes the Brixton artist’s sound into new melodic territories, whilst maintaining the progressive edge on which he’s made his name. Directed by ‘Crown & Key’ video director Paco Raterta, the ‘Immigrant Sons’ urgent and startling visuals reflect the fresh sonic palette of the track.

GAIKA’s boundary pushing debut album BASIC VOLUME takes its name from the company that belonged to his late father. GAIKA says “BASIC VOLUME takes its name of from my fathers maroon technology. It is the science he taught me before he left this world. It is the poetry we grew under and were made strong by its force. With this knowledge I fought until my hands bled, propelled into combat by the god of metals. It’s all true, I nearly lost my heart to angry memories, waking dreams of burnt out laboratories and dead friends. I am this chemistry and it is I and so I wrote it here. BASIC VOLUME is collection of alchemical parables for all the Immigrants who wander the earth in search of themselves”.

GAIKA has also curated SYSTEM, an evocative art installation at Somerset House Studios telling the history of sound system culture in London commissioned by Boiler Room. SYSTEM challenges the media perception of Carnival by showcasing a fair representation of the stories, characters, statistics and under celebrated sound system culture at Carnival and beyond. It forms part of a wider campaign from Boiler Room to celebrate the positive cultural impact of migration. This will take place from 1 August and run until 26 August

Now GAIKA’s darkly magnetic blend of gothic dancehall and industrial electronics has expanded into his most far-reaching work yet.

BASIC VOLUME is a sprawling yet cohesive album that devours genres and spits them out, tangled around personal tales of love, loss and rebellion. With BASIC VOLUME,GAIKA continues to simultaneously push the boundaries of electronic music and the legacy of the UK’s indelible soundsystem culture, inviting listeners into a sonic world of his creation. The 15 track collection is co-produced by GAIKA, with additional production from similarly forward thinking contemporaries, including SOPHIE, Dutch E Germ, Dre Skull and DADRAS, Aart as well as previous collaborators including Jam City, Nick Leon and Frank Ocean’s Blonde and Endless collaborator Buddy Ross.

BASIC VOLUME is today announced by the explosive arrival of ‘Crown & Key’. A muscular rallying-cry, ‘Crown & Key’ is accompanied by truly captivating, cinematic visuals, directed by Paco Raterta. Raterta says “The first time I heard ‘Crown and Key’, it reminded me of the funeral chants in the chapels of the village where I grew up, and it opened up all the biblical nightmares I use to have as a kid. If you know Christian visuals, they are very grotesque, stiff and very beautiful at the same time. The camera movement is inspired again by my memories as an altar boy, it’s basically a POV memory of mine, entering the church, carrying the bible and seeing everyone around, but the faces were always never clear, I can feel like they are looking at me, but I don’t see them at all.”

‘Crown & Key’ underpins the Brixton artists’ flair for crafting bold, imposing tracks, while the SOPHIE produced ‘Immigrant Sons (Pesos & Gas)’ is one of the most instantly rousing and poignant tracks of his career to date, albeit in typically subversive style. BASIC VOLUME  closes with the meditative ‘Spectacular Anthem’, with its minimalism giving an almost liturgic quality to GAIKA’s vocals.

BASIC VOLUME is collection of alchemical parables for all the Immigrants who wander the earth in search of themselves”

A polymath by nature GAIKA’s creative output has always straddled different worlds, taking influence from academia, British reggae soundsystems, philosophy and political theory as much as the influence of fellow musicians. In BASIC VOLUME, these themes intersect with meditations on his own identity. Raised in Brixton, schooled in Sutton and of Jamaican and Grenadian descent, GAIKA has never chosen a linear path in his creative outputs. “My thing has always been: be yourself – whatever you are, be that – and people will walk towards it,” GAIKA says. “I am whatever I say I am. And I want that to apply to all people of colour, all black people. This idea of what we like, make, do and how our art can be defined from outside of us is something I’ll actively try to disrupt.”

TORONTO, ON – April 26, 2018 - Today, Oneohtrix Point Never (OPN / Daniel Lopatin) releases the visionary “Black Snow” alongside a striking self-directed video.  ”Black Snow” is the first song to be released from the forthcoming album Age Of (June 1, Warp Records).

The lyrics on “Black Snow” take their inspiration from Nick Land and the Cybernetic Culture Research Unit he co-founded; a 1990′s collective of artist-philosophers that produced works of performance art, poetry and fiction and is most definitely worth a late-night internet spiral or two. The original text is detourned into a lyric that equates the incomprehensible hugeness of nuclear war to UHF fuzz, whilst addressing the idea that we are a species destined for confusion. The song’s breakdown is courtesy of a uniqle instrument invented by Hans Reichel in 1987 called the Daxophone, and the outro is dominated by a house music-inspired organ riff shot through waves of noise. An extremely catchy, mutated pop song whose ancestry might fall somewhere between the mood of The Seventh Continent and Bruce Cockburn’s “If I Had A Rocket Launcher.”

Terrifying and comforting in turns, OPN juggles beautiful pop riffs with demented minimalism and gut-grasping harmony, plunging into deep seas of color and tearing out threads of melody. The material may feel alien, but the scale of the thing is most decidedly – and affectingly – human. We are in for something truly special.
