RON HAWKINS’ “PEACE & QUIET” ODE TO THE TORONTO MAPLE LEAFS

April 20th, 2017

RonHawks

TORONTO, ON – April 20, 2017 - Prior to  the 2015-2016 hockey season, Maple Leaf Sports Entertainment introduced a tribute video in conjunction with celebrating the forthcoming Toronto Maple Leafs 100th anniversary. The video footage was compiled and beautifully edited by filmmaker Tim Thompson (infamous for his montages that introduced CBC’s Hockey Night in Canada) with the soundtrack provided by Ron Hawkins’ “Peace & Quiet” from his Garden Songs album. At the beginning of this season, Tim updated the ode adding new footage for fans to watch during home game pre-shows. With The Leafs most recently qualifying for the playoffs for the first time in years, Tim is bringing tears to the eyes of Leafs fans with a brand new edit of the montage. See the video here.

Originally thought of as a onetime play on the Jumbo Tron at the Air Canada Centre, the response from the crowd was tremendous. The newest version of the video since went viral with almost a million views online and to this day is playing during every home game’s pre-game show.

Toronto Star’s Dave Feschuk wrote, “The synergies are stunning. Part of it is the tune. It’s a beauty that rises and fall in all the right places for the purpose at hand”.

The Canadian Press’ Neil Davidson mentions “The video montage captures perfectly the city’s love for a hockey franchise whose past greatness was followed by years of mediocrity. But the present is all about future promise and the video captures that too, ending with Hawkins’ line – ‘This time we’ll get it right.’ ”

Hawkins is currently in the recording studio finishing up what will be the first Lowest of the Low album in 13 years, scheduled for late summer release via Pheromone Recordings. In 2008, Lowest of the Low were inducted into the Canadian Indie Rock Hall of Fame, while Hawkins has also been voted NOW Magazine’s Songwriter of the Year in both 2001 and 2016. Most recently, Hawkins toured Western Canada with his other band the Do Good Assassins as guests of Blue Rodeo, finishing up in Ron’s hometown at the prestigious Massey Hall.  “Peace & Quiet” opened the show nightly to tremendous response!
