The Deluxe Edition Of ‘Life As A Dog’ Out On May 4
NXNE Date Announced – June 18 At The Mod Club
“So extremely excited to be working with Fontana North on the record release. CANADA LET’S GET COZY.” – K.Flay
Fontana North are thrilled to announce the signing of Bummer Picnic Records‘ artist K.Flay, a young American based alternative artist. Described by Rolling Stone as delivering “quick fire rhymes, loaded with clever wordplay about suburban discontent” her style is a well-mixed musical cocktail of almost every genre. Her astounding debut ‘Life As A Dog‘ will be re-released as a deluxe version in Canada on May 4, 2015.
K.Flay (otherwise known as Kristine Flaherty), found her innovative sound only after climbing over more than a handful of roadblocks. She had previously released two mixtapes and three EPs, but was trapped on the roster of a major label that wouldn’t commit to an album. So at the end of 2013, Flay unhooked herself from the label and began writing songs for what would become the most cohesive, truest representation of herself – her debut album, ‘Life As A Dog.’ The record debuted at #2 on Billboard’s Heatseekers chart, put her on the roster of the 20th Anniversary of Vans Warped Tour, and lead to a headline run – selling out venues in SF, LA, Chicago, Boston, New York and Austin.
The album is steeped with an awareness of progress, as K.Flay tries to reconcile the tension between being up to no good and also searching to find the good in everything. ”There’s a hopefulness to the songs, like, ‘I fucked up today but I can do better tomorrow,’” explains Flaherty. ’Can’t Sleep,’ a propulsive, moody number, reflects on the anxiety of missing out, and how that can lead to self-destruction. ‘Wishing It Was You‘ harkens back to the musician’s youth, inspired by her admiration for Liz Phair’s Exile In Guyville. ’Thicker Than Dust‘ is an ode to friendship, a thumping recollection of the people K.Flay has connected with during her years of travel. A handful of these friends became the collaborators for the album, including Billboard (Robyn, B.o.B., Britney Spears), Justyn Pilbrow (The Neighbourhood) and Sam Spiegel (Maroon 5, N.A.S.A).
She just finished a tour with Lights in Europe, and will be playing NXNE on June 18 at The Mod Club with Betty Who. More dates will be announced shortly around the release date, May 4, 2015. #MayThe4thBeWithYou – ha!Return home
