Singer-songwriter Tim Moxam is set to release his debut full-length, Soft Summer, on April 29th via Roaring Girl Records/Fontana North. The album features a stunning group of 10 original songs, including the new single, Bones. The video for Bones recently premiered on Live In Limbo and they warn that ”You’re going to immediately want to jump into bed and twirl around with a loved one as soon as it’s over.” The album can be pre-ordered now on iTunes and will include instant grat tracks, Meant To Be and Bones. Tim recently shared the stage with Coeur de Pirate for a sold out show in Waterloo, ON and tonight he opens for The Strumbellas at Meaford Hall, followed by a February 24th show at Toronto’s Dakota Tavern as part of Paquin Presents. Details below.
On this debut LP Moxam shows he’s a singer-songwriter wholly of his own. “Recording Soft Summer was a major milestone for me. The songs represent a huge span of my young life and finally recording them was the most rewarding artistic experience I’ve ever had.” Moxam continues, “Part of what made it so special was the plethora of talent that joined me in the studio, including Producer Chris Stringer, who helped craft a seamless story from almost a decade of memories.”
Moxam recruited a who’s who in Toronto’s music scene: former bandmates, Adrian Cook (guitar) and Tony McKnight (bass) of Great Bloomers, Joshua Van Tassel (drums) of Great Lake Swimmers, and Lemon Bucket Orkestra’s Christopher Weatherstone (saxophone.) The songstresses Ivy Mairi (The Weather Station, Bruce Peninsula) and Raffa Weyman (RALPH and formerly Queen of the Fleet) provided accompanying vocals on several tracks. The album was recorded, mixed and produced by Chris Stringer, who has worked with Timber Timbre, Ohbijou, The Wooden Sky and Gentlemen Reg, among countless others.
At its core, Soft Summer is a collection of deeply personal songs, organized like a sonic memoir. The new single Bones is a languid and emotive love song, narrated over an intricate guitar line that weaves between Moxam, Mairi and Weyman’s joint vocals. Many of the songs have lived with the Toronto-based Moxam for years, lyrics being re-worked and re-written in countless journals, while others were birthed in the final months before recording. Some were from the era before his first EP, Blue Son, and some were even penned in the backseat of the van as he toured with his former band, the beloved indie rock group, Great Bloomers.
Soft Summer is at turns passionate and tender, sorrowful and solemn, uplifting and rollicking. It’s a look inside Moxam’s own life, encrypted in metaphors and melodies.
